Merry Christmas, all! I hope you are having a lovely holiday, bonding with family and friends, and eating ridiculous amounts.
I thought this year I’d get you all a little something. Right about now, you’ve probably opened your presents and are settling in to the first round of digestion. What, you might ask, should you do between caroling and starting to prepare the meal for the second round of Christmas digestion?
That’s where David Sedaris comes in. You all probably know his famous ‘Santaland Diaries,’ the truly hilarious story about his tenure as a Macy’s elf that made him almost as vital a part of Christmas as plum pudding. But that’s not my favorite of his holiday stories; to me, the best and purest holiday joy comes from ‘6 to 8 Black Men’. If you don’t know it yet, you’re about to: you should probably just buy yourself a last holiday gift and download the whole album ‘Live at Carnegie Hall’ right now (because the only thing funnier than David Sedaris’ stories is David Sedaris reading David Sedaris’ stories). But if you want a taste, here’s him reading the story himself. Settle down, grab a nice holiday beverage, and be prepared for an ab workout of laughing. And don’t say I never did nothin’ for ya.
